The Steel Rooms Workshops

Level: Beginners and upwards

Tutor: Karen Raithby

Workshop Dates and Times:

This is a 5 week course beginning Tuesday 12 September and running up to and including Tuesday 10 October

12.30pm – 3pm

Cost: £125 for the full 5 weeks per person including all materials, tools and tea / coffee.

About the Course:

This course offers an introduction to working with clay. Participants will learn basic hand building techniques and explore surface texturing to enable them to produce 5 beautiful pieces of work.

Participants will learn about and use different types of clay as well as gaining knowledge of the technical side of the ceramic process.

Week 1 – Pinch pots – incorporating sculpture and clay manipulation.

Week 2 – Tile making – including surface decoration techniques.

Week 3 – Slab work  – working with soft and leather hard clay.

Week 4 – Coiling – structure and the imagination.

Week 5 – Working with press moulds.

All work will be dried , fired, glazed and returned within 2 weeks of the final session

About Karen:

Karen is an experienced potter who enjoys leading workshops and giving others a chance to be creative with clay. The workshops cover a wide range of subject matter and can accommodate all ages and abilities. The sessions are designed to give an opportunity to learn basic techniques whilst enjoying the creation of unique objects to keep.
