About Brooks Williams:
“He’s a lovely player, a lovely singer, and a great writer. Brooks Williams is the real thing.” – Martin Simpson
Brooks is delighted to share with you the audience, and his guest artists and friends, a very special evening, celebrating his thirty-year’s experience on the road.
With a remarkable twenty-nine albums to his name, Brooks Williams is at the top of his game. Brooks may call the UK home now, but his music and manner are firmly rooted in his Statesboro, Georgia, USA, birthplace. Brooks’ wide smile and gentle grace immediately puts his audience at ease, as he takes you along on a journey: from the roots of the early country-blues legends such as Robert Johnson and Blind Willie McTell, through jazz, folk and Americana. Brooks is a skilled interpreter of the standards, with a style that is unmistakably his own. He’s also a soulful singer, who writes and delivers his own great songs (new favourites!) alongside old favourites.
Brooks cut his teeth in the States supporting the likes of Nanci Griffith, Chris Smither, Leo Kottke, Shawn Colvin, and Taj Mahal to name but a few.
Williams is a guitarists’ guitarist. Behind his relaxed, easy manner, lies a sophisticated fingerpicker and a mean bottleneck slider. The groove he sets up on his battered Atkin J-43 is second-to-none in acoustic music.
For his 30th Anniversary Tour, Brooks Williams has recorded an album of his favourite songs from his back catalogue. Titled Work My Claim, the recording features some of Brooks’ musician friends including John McCusker (Mark Knopfler, McCusker McGoldrick and Doyle, Heidi Talbot), Christine Collister (Richard Thompson, Daphne’s Flight), Jim Henry (Eliza Gilkyson, Tracy Grammer, The Boxcar Lillies), Aaron Catlow (Yola Carter, Sheelanagig, Hawes & Catlow) and Phil Richardson (Claypath).
A night out with Brooks guarantees you a great show, whether he’s playing solo, or joined by friends, as on this tour. Brooks is a natural collaborator; he loves the opportunity to experiment and try new approaches to old material and to support other artists in their musical development.
So come and join Brooks and friends on a musical journey, celebrating 30 years of performing, at a venue near you.
