About The Workshops:
Have you ever thought of writing your life story, either to publish as memoir or simply to hand down to children and grandchildren? Or perhaps you’ve wondered about the sometimes tricky relationship between fact and fiction that a writer has to negotiate. This Dayschool will look at memoir / autobiography and the role of therapeutic writing. Most importantly it will explore, through a series of exercises and triggers, how you can use your own personal experience to write creatively in whatever form you prefer: prose, poetry or script. Led by local writer, Sue Wilsea, the day is suitable for absolute beginners or those with some writing experience.
Sue’s work is with words, whether that’s writing, performing or teaching. Her fiction and poetry has been widely published and broadcast with her first collection of short stories, Staying Afloat, being published by Valley Press in 2012 and her second Raw Material in November 2016. In 2014 she gained an MA in Creative Writing (Distinction ) from Newcastle University. As a freelance Arts practitioner Sue currently delivers Creative Writing classes and undertakes a wide range of writing / literature based projects. She has four grown-up children, lives with her husband in North Lincolnshire and buys too many books and earrings.

‘Raw Material’, her recently published short fiction collection, is currently long listed for the Edge Hill prize.
