Starts in 2 Months, 14 Days
30th March 2019 10:00 - 16:00
Level: Suitable for all levels from beginner upwards
Teacher: Sinclair Ashman
Workshop Date and Time:
Saturday 30 March 2019
10am – 4pm
Cost: £46 per person. Includes all materials.
About the Workshop:
A one-day workshop, producing ink-on-paper prints using the collagraph method. Collagraphs produce textured impressions in the paper as well as the inked image.
In the morning session, you will glue a variety of materials onto a flat surface to make printing plates. These can include torn or cut fabric pieces and edgings, string, matchsticks, rubber washers, pieces of card, kitchen foil, dried leaves etc.
In the afternoon, you will use a small printing press to print your plate(s) and see the results!
Experiments with the collagraph printmaking technique yield interesting and often surprising results. Sinclairs original prints are partly achieved by creating printing plates that are deliberately fragile in nature. Join him in this one day experimental printing workshop.
Bits to bring along with you:
- Please bring along a bag of your own materials (see above) to make your plates. Provided the materials are not too thick (no more than 2mm) and not sharp, they will work fine.
- Pinny or old cover-all shirt
A bit about Sinclair:
Sinclair Ashman was born in London and now lives in Horncastle, Lincolnshire. He trained as a graphic designer at the University of the Arts, London.
For Sinclair, his fine art printmaking is about playing with texture, colour and deep impressions in fine papers. His prints are the product of individual inking where the colours – often combining traditional and metallic inks – are blended together directly onto the plate to produce truly unique imagery.
Sinclair’s work has been shown at galleries across the UK and Ireland, including ‘Anomalies’, a large-scale solo show in 2009, and Print!! at Project Space Plus, University of Lincoln, in 2018. Sinclair is a member of the Printmakers Council.
