This workshop is designed as a 4 session series to take you through various stages of bookbinding from paper making, simple bookbinding methods to more complex methods. A hands on and relaxing workshop with real results, not in to knitting? Binding books can be just as therapeutic with rewarding results. This is set up as 4 sessions for you to really delve in to this art but if there’s only one or two sessions you fancy coming along to, you don’t need to have attended previous sessions, so feel free to pick and mix the sessions that appeal to you.
Get together one Saturday per month (March – June) and learn the art of bookbinding. During session 1 we will experiment with and create our own handmade paper which can be utilised in the books we will later create. In session 2 we will be looking at 4-hole Japanese stab binding. Simple and practical, this is the basic traditional method of Japanese bookbinding (or stab binding). In session 3 you will learn how to create a leatherette journal using the long stitch binding method, with a chain stitch variation. In session 4 you will learn how to create a cloth hardcover coptic stitch book, this workshop will teach you how to wrap hardcovers as well as learn the coptic stitch binding method. This course is perfect for beginners or those who want to brush up on their basic bookbinding skills.
