Photo Hub Seconds

Photography Group

Do you want to become a more proficient photographer?

This series of workshops is for enthusiastic digital photographers who have experience making pictures but now want to broaden their knowledge and photographic skills.

You will already know your camera functions and the principles of composition and exposure; now you want to put that knowledge into practice under various conditions and for different subjects.

Every four weeks the sessions will discuss a fresh genre of photography and the associated techniques and equipment used before setting a ‘homework’ project. The series of images from these projects will be reviewed in the following session during a group critique.  Additionally, where possible, there will be a practical exercise during the session.

As the course progresses aspects of post processing will be discussed.  If there is sufficient interest more detailed sessions will be made available.

Cost: £12.50 per person or book 3 consecutive sessions and get them at £10 each * see terms and conditions below

A bit about Simon:

Simon Gaddes – Quiet Life Photos

Simon has been involved with photography as a hobby for much of his life with his photography business developing in the last 3 years. His self taught photographic style, capturing predominantly natural world subjects, aims to make the subject shine without over-processing or camera ‘trickery’. A single camera and lens is used only, Simon’s little back to basics revolt with images manipulated post production using only simple ‘dark room’ style techniques. Time is spent making the image not at home in front of a computer screen. [add website]

Simon currently offers formal evening sessions in Sheffield and Nottinghamshire and 1:1 workshop experiences throughout the East Midlands, South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. His works are available online and displayed at many of the region’s art fairs and markets.

Religious Art from the Renaissance Period Talk with Amy Hewitt

Evening Talk at The Steel Rooms

Evening Talk with Amy Hewitt – Religious Art from the Renaissance Period

At the Steel Rooms Christmas talk, we will delve into the thought-provoking world of Religious Art from the Renaissance period. Focusing on narrative based imagery we discover hidden meaning within the works, be they theological, philosophical or political.

The talk will last around 40 minutes, with a chance for Q & A afterwards and an opportunity to buy some of Amy’s made things.

Date: Thursday 7 December

Time: 7pm – 8:30pm

Cost: £2.50 includes a tea / coffee / hot chocolate / hot apple juice and a biscuit

More about Amy

Amy Hewitt’s practice is concerned primarily with sculpture, performance and narrative. Her work focuses upon invoking the Other through the application of the Monstrous, the Abject and the Uncanny. She engages with phenomenology of the internal and external via the investigation of surface; with a fascination for what lies outside – beyond standard perception, cognition and experience. Her work aims to give a physical form to the narrative that underpins her practice. Through a process of intuitive making Hewitt binds disparate material into otherworldly forms. Hewitt graduated with an MA in Fine Art from the University of Lincoln 2016.

About the band…

Dive Bar are a trio of experienced musicians who have come together to explore their shared passion for country and blues music. They are right at the start of their musical journey and whilst the destination is unknown the direction is very much towards creating and reproducing songs in unique ways merging influences from country, blues, folk and rock rather than following any particular form of musical tradition.

They deliver songs in a stripped down form using both acoustic and electric instruments to produce a performance with guts and edge and play a mixture of original material and non-mainstream covers.
