Interpreting Landscape

‘INTERPRETING LANDSCAPE’ – An art exhibition at the Steel rooms in Brigg featuring the work of Jackie Welton and Janet Gillatt.

Jackie and Janet first met as teaching colleagues in 1987 but through their mutual love of painting a friendship was formed which continues today. Through the years they have attended different local art classes and, at present, are members of the North Lincs Artists Society and The Irby Group of artists who meet each week in the winter months to paint together and support each other through critical appraisal of each other’s work. Both groups exhibit regularly in the Grimsby and Lincoln areas. Jackie is also a member of the ‘East Coast 7’ group which has exhibited widely around the county. She gained her BA Hons in Fine Art at Lincoln University in 2007.

Jackie and Janet work in acrylic, pastel, charcoal and collage. They also use the print room at the Ropewalk in Barton-on-Humber where they have experimented with collagraph printing to extend their skills.

The artists’ response to the landscape is not totally representational but through their painting techniques and use of colour the viewer is given the opportunity to observe the landscape from a different perspective and interpret it in their own personal way.
